standard II
II. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standards.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress
c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources
d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching
Reflection:
In my opinion, this standard aligns with the flipped classroom model. Not only does the flipped classroom call for the use of digital tools, but it also promotes engagement in the learning process. One of the tools that I think exemplifies this standard is the podcast. Students receive course content on their own time. They can set the when and where they obtain knowledge and then they can come to the class prepared to put their knowledge to use. Having already accessed the content of the lesson, when the students arrive to class they are ready to actively put what they learned to use. In the same way that a podcast provides information, a teacher-made video is another way to provide information to the students. Using both of these tools appeals to multiple learning styles. In order to assess student progress, providing quizzes on the class website will allow the teacher and the student to keep track of learning. Another online tool that the teacher could use to provide information to the student is through the use of Scoop.it. This interactive site lets the teacher select relevant information to the task at hand.

Future Learning Goal:
By incorporating these tools into my class will allow me to appeal to many different types of learners. The podcast and video could serve me well in developing the flipped classroom. The capability of providing students with the knowledge they need to perform in the classroom is invaluable. As a foreign language teacher, the use of a podcast would permit me to instruct students on certain vocabulary and expressions and when they arrive to class we could engage in conversation. One of the major problems for a foreign language teacher is promoting conversation because so much class time is used teaching pronunciation and vocabulary, there is little time left for the students to actually put their knowledge to use. I love the idea of having quizzes available on the website so the students can assess how they are progressing and if they need remediation, I would have the data available that shows deficiencies.
