standard i
I. Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments.
a. Promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness
b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources
c. Promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students’ conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes
d. Model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments
Reflection:
In a traditional classroom setting the teacher is the giver of information, usually in the form of a lecture, and the students passively listen and perhaps take notes. This type of teaching does not inspire the student to want to learn, this type of teaching almost makes learning seem like a duty. Standard I states that the teacher should act as a facilitator of the learning process. Instead of the teacher simply telling the students, he or she engages the students. The most obvious tool that we worked with in this course that meets this standard is the class blog. By having students create a blog, they will have the opportunity to reflect not only on their own learning experience but on their classmates' experiences as well. In order to encourage collaboration, the Google Drive activities would be excellent tools. With these tools, each of the students has a chance to contribute something they have learned and at the same time collaborate with their peers. Just as the students could collaborate using Google Docs, they could also collaborate with Google Slides. Google Slides is a great tool and each student would be invested in the project because they would be responsible for presenting their work to the class.

Future Learning Goal:
As a classroom teacher, these tools will be invaluable resources. I have always struggled to create collaborative learning experiences for the students. A blog is an easy way to get students to work together in a way that reduces apprehension. I have found that many students are afraid to contribute to the learning process because they are too timid to speak up. A blog breaks down that wall and permits the student to open up without fear of being judged. I will undoubtedly employ the Google Drive tools in my future instruction. The fact that students can create a collaborative physical product without even being in the same room has so many implications. Google Drive is also a great tool because there is no need for the students to own a software program, it is available to anyone with the Internet; this is a great tool for bridging the digital divide.
